Search Principles for Climbing Rescue

Search Planning-- At the beginning of the search process take time to consider previous rescues of the area, likely repeated events and whether the information gained matches likely scenarios.

Containment--Keep in mind that potentially injured/lost persons may self rescue during a search and end up at home while the rescue continues.  Consider containment measures that will reduce this from occurring.  Containment measures include actions such as posting a person at each trailhead, patrolling roadways adjoining

Navigation--Being able to find the known or hoped scene of the incident is necessary in order to begin patient access.  Generally climbing related accidents occur at crags well known to its users.  For more remote areas the ability to use map, compass, terrain recognition and GPS units are important.
