Transitions
In this photo we see Danielle ready to make changes to the climbing system. The changes intended require that established systems of safety be replaced with others. Danielle appears to be moving from a position on the ground to ascending a fixed line.
The number of various transitions we conduct as climbers are unending. Transitions include any change between one system and another. Doing so is a necessary part of the climbing process and are a time of increased risk.
Below we will look at some but certainly not all of the transitions used by climbers.

Knot Passes
The ability to pass a knot through a ascending or descending system is important to ensure that the climber does not become stranded in vertical terrain.
